Common questions

Which state has the most crypto restrictions?

New York: 6 of the 20 apps we track are not available there (Kraken, River, Uphold, Crypto.com, Binance.US and OKX US).

Why are some crypto apps not available in certain states?

Crypto exchanges generally need state money transmitter licenses (and in New York a BitLicense or trust charter from the Department of Financial Services). If a company does not hold the license a state requires, or chooses not to serve that state, residents cannot open accounts there.

Can I use a VPN to access a blocked crypto app?

Apps verify your identity and residential address. Misrepresenting your state usually breaks the app's terms of service and can get your account frozen. Use an app that is available in your state instead.
